Crowdfunding is the process of raising money to fund what is typically a project or business venture through many donors using an online platform, such as Kickstarter, Indiegogo and Crowdfunder. It is essentially the business of letting others be part of yours.
There is no doubt that crowdfunding has revived board games and tabletop gaming in general. The sheer number of projects launched this year as well as dedicated websites, blogs YouTube channels and live streaming channels which are now available are testomany to the growing popularity of this age old form of entertainment... and I am excited about it.
2015 did not disappoint in the department of crowdfunded board game projects that where launched and sucessfully funded. Fantasy and scifi games once again make up the vast majority of board games launched in 2015, but there were some great historical and social games launched that I really like as well. Here are the six board games which I think were the best board games launched on crowdfunding platforms during 2015.
What a bumper year for video games has 2015 been and even more so, for video games being funded via various crowdfunding platforms. For small indie puzzle games to massive open world RPGs, 2015 left no gamer empty handed (or wallet full) when it came to backing video games.
I personally backed more video game projects this year than in any previous year, which included a small music based puzzle game, an huge open world RPG and a few games in between. It was an exciting crowdfunding year and I have picked my top 12 crowdfunded video game projects of 2015.
2015 was a particularly interesting year for crowdfunding in general and more specifically for horology and watches. The data is both impressive and staggering when you consider that 2015 may close with over US$30 billion in total funding for projects across all platforms.
2015 was especially a good year for watch projects on popular crowdfunding projects with the overall number of launched projects, successful projects and total funding for these projects amounting to more than in any previous year. Of all these projects I have selected ten watches, five smart and connected watches, five new watch brands and five watch accessories which I think were the very best of 2015.
With over a billion views and 2000+ videos uploaded, TED is a not just an idea it is a movement. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design and was the brainchild of Richard Saul Wurman, who observed a convergence of these fields in 1984. With the slogan “Ideas worth sharing” TED has become the goto for information and inspiration from the world's leaders in the fields of not only technology, entertainment and design but also for science, culture, medicine and academics among others.
In much the same way as TED is about ‘ideas worth sharing’, crowdfunding is about ‘ideas worth funding’. Crowdfunding and TED share many similarities and one could almost say that they share the same DNA. Here are four TED Talks which I think every crowdfunding creator or backer should watch. They are also perfect for those curious about crowdfunding as they provide much insight and case studies.
